A soldier braces for an attack during riot control training.

Paratroopers have been training to deal with hostile crowds that they may face in their role as the British Army’s rapid reaction force.

Troops from 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment have faced petrol bombs and missiles as they carried out public order training in a mock village at Lydd ranges in Kent.

The Colchester-based soldiers started off by learning how to work together to both defend each other with shields and drive back hostile crowds, with the training culminating in a simulated disturbance with their colleagues as rioters.
