Soldiers from across the 7th Armoured Brigade (The Desert Rats) took part in exercise Askari Thunder 4, which was held in Kenya.

Exercise Askari Thunder is designed to train soldiers in Hybrid Foundation Training (HFT), and push them both physically and mentally.

The soldiers trained in temperatures of up to 45 degrees, with the added and ever present danger from venomous snakes and spiders. The training took place from mid October to December 2012.

HFT focuses individuals and units on core soldiering skills (fire and manoeuvre, all arms integration, leadership and team building), which they can build on and adapt to suit the requirements of Mission Specific Training (MST). The skills obtained during HFT are vital to allow units and individuals to gain the maximum benefit from MST training and ensure that they are delivered to the start of MST with the agility and flexibility required for the current operating environments.

HFT is constantly updated using the relevant lessons learned from operations and training.

Very interesting narrative, and the shot is great. It must be great being paid to fly model airplanes. I was paid to ski in Norway, so I can’t complain =]
